(Artists Summary Page and Assignment: (scroll down for audio)
Here is a summary of the artists. You will tell me the following information in Spanish. Everyone is required to do paragraph number one. After that, you get to pick three of the remaining paragraphs to present. If you choose Frida, there is a little bit of extra credit b/c it is obviously longer. All of the following paragraphs are online for you to hear. Go to my web page, to Spanish 3 and click on the artists page.
Last week, we studied 6 artists. Five of the artists were (ser-imperfect) from Europe and four of those were (ser-imperfect) from Spain. Only one of the artists that we studied was (ser-imperfect) from Mexico. Her name was (ser-Imperfect) Frida Kahlo.
Frida was (ser-imperfect) famous because she was (ser-imperfect) a good painter and because she married another really famous artist whose name was Diego Rivera. Diego was (ser-imperfect) her professor at the university. After they married, they went to the United States but Frida never was (estar-imperfect) happy and wanted (imp) to go back to Mexico. They divorced (pret) because Diego was (ser-imp) unfaithful and she went (ser-preterit) to Mexico. Many years later they married (pret) again and then Frida died (pret) 4 years after.
Pablo Picasso was (ser-Imperfect) an artist from Spain. He is famous for his style of cubism. In cubism, many of the shapes are rectangles, circles, diamonds and other geometric shapes. Pablo Picasso also drew many faces that are distorted and one of his most famous paintings is “Guernica” which is about a situation where Hitler bombed a city in Spain for his friend Franco who was the dictator of Spain.
Another artist from Spain is Salvador Dalí. Dalí painted many paintings in the style of Surrealism. In this style many of the paintings are (estar) distorted and use curves. Many of his paintings have hidden objects.
El Greco is an artist from Greece and his real name was Dominikus Teotokopolous. He was catholic and painted many of his paintings about the Bible. Everybody calls him “El Greco” because his name is hard to pronounce (pronunciar).
Francisco Goya and Diego Velasquez are the last artists that we studied. The two of them were from Spain and they painted in the style of realism. Both of them painted for nobles and rich people but Francisco Goya used his art as a form of protest. Velasquez had a lot of detail in his paintings and painted for Kings and Queens.
